Hossmanninfo

Joeggu Hossmann was born in 1978 in Thun, Switzerland, where he lives and works today. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and at fairs in Europe and the United States. The artist is represented in Switzerland by PYTHONGALLERY in Zurich, in France by Galerie Richard in Paris, in Germany by EXOgallery in Stuttgart, and in the United States by AXIOM CONTEMPORARY in Phoenix and Philadelphia. Hossmann has been a member of Visarte Switzerland since 2015.

Radically contemporary in his choice of motifs, Hossmann captures moments that document the situations of our civilization. Impressions from afar, which he photographs during his travels and later compresses and processes in his oil paintings, appear like an endless strip of film. The painter analyzes and comments on his subjects, presenting them to the viewer as a subjective reflection of modern humanity and its time. Pixelated color abstractions contribute to subtly blurring the boundaries between his protagonists and their surroundings. Hossmann’s painting expresses an existential distance from world events, from whose reality we try to convince ourselves through an excessive sense of media proximity.

In 2000, Hossmann began creating assemblages from circuit boards and painted in pixel structures that made his work resemble early computer graphics. From this exploration arose his current painting style – a shift from depiction physical hardware to visualizing immaterial software. In his YouTube and Googol series, which reflect the spirit of the times with their abundance of visual information, he captures with frozen intensity the collective visual memory of the virtual world.
